Hi, hope you are well. I needed some help with a particular dataset I am using for a study. My research looks at women's time allocation as an outcome variable. However, I am not sure how to construct this variable given the way it is arranged in this dataset:
As you can see, there are 18 activities in total (denoted 18 rows for each observation) that range from sleeping to housework. In the second image, you can see that there are columns that denote the time of the day (15 intervals) that correspond to the activity, which gets value 1 if the person is engaged in that activity at that particular time interval.
Basically, I want to construct a time allocation variable that shows proportion of time spent on leisure/ self care to time spent on housework, and work outside the house. My study aims to explore if a particular policy changed the way women allocate their time to leisure vs inside/ outside work. But I am not sure how to go about this. If anyone has any idea on how I can start to clean this dataset and go about constructing this variable, it would be extremely helpful! Please let me know your thoughts on this if possible.
