I am currently trying to run a hierarchical logistic model in Stata using federal sentencing data. I used the command “xtmelogit” to run the analysis; however, it has not produce any results. It is just continuously “thinking.” I believe that it is not running with the “xtmelogit” command because there is not enough variation in the dependent variable. The dependent variable is whether an offender received prison, with 1 being yes and 0 being no. Close to 98% of offenders at the federal level received a prison sentence and about 3% did not.
The contextual variables in my analysis are aggregated at the court district level (there are 90 districts courts included in my analysis).
I am not sure what I need to do to get the data to run and produce results.
