I am currently running panel regression with random effects and there is a result that I cant fully interprete myself. I hope you might be able to help.
Consider the situation:
I am running a first regression where the independent variable X has a significant effect on the dependent variable Y.
In the second regression I am introducing the interaction term of X and a moderation variable Z. The term XZ is inisgnificant but X becomes insignificant as well despite the insignificance of XZ.
How would you interpret this? It might be obvious but I cant really get my head around this. How does the interaction term cause X to become insignificant despite being insignificant itself?
Thanks for the help
