Hi,

What is the simplest method to count quarters from Feb 1972 to Apr 1993?

I am generating a quarterly time-series variable and specifying its start date but Stata prefers Jan 1960. The manual and stata online do not answer this question directly (or at least it is unclear to me), so I have considered creating a string variable and then converting to datetime as another logical approach, but that seems messy. Please help find a general solution.
