I’ve seen many contributors here (including Andrew Musau William Lisowski Bjarte Aagnes Ali Atia to name a few) showcase some very impressive regular expressions, but I still have never had the patience to sit down and figure out how to do anything beyond the basics. I’m curious to hear anyone’s thoughts as to how to go about learning regular expressions. There are many many threads here on Statalist where the aforementioned contributors provide useful resources for regex; however, I’m trying to see what useful resources there are for learning are as opposed to resources for reference (if that makes sense). Asjad Naqvi recently wrote an article about regex in the context of Stata, which is very helpful, but I’m also curious to hear from members of this community as well since his article is fairly recent. In addition to practice (which is of course a given), what resources do you recommend for going from beginner to proficient in regular expressions?
