Hi, i have few question on generating new variables and calculating. I am new to stata and I dont know how to go about solving these problems below. For the first question i am assuming i need to generate a new variable and think it would be something similar to gen realwage by dividing wage/cpi but i am lost and dont know how to go about doing so. Please help me solve and explain the principles. Many thanks!!!

Questions:

1. Create the real wage by deflating wage with the price index (i.e. wage/cpi).

2. Create the log of the real wage. Plot the histogram of it for the two years in the

sample.

3. Calculate the average years of education for 1995 and for 2011. Test (using a t-test)

if average education has significantly changed between those years.
