datatypes and Logistic regression

General question

Do I have a special data format when performing logistic regression? What I mean is following: I have to assume a binary outcome (1/0) to perform this analysis. What if, inadvertently, instead of 1 I Inputted 11? Would STATA be able to perform it anyway? Or what if the variable is saved as String?
