Special character in Variable labels (German "ä", "ö", "ü", ...)

I'am importing a ".dta dataset created by another Software (maybe SAS) and everything workes fine, apart that I observe odd characters in place of "ä", "ö", "ü", .. . I know it has something to do with unicode, but I cannot find out, how to convert that labels globally.
